Job summary

Harford County Public Schools (HCPS) seeks a dedicated Paraeducator – Special Education at Bakerfield Elementary School to support instructional programs and assist with IEP/IFSP implementation. The role involves working with students individually or in small groups, monitoring behavior, and helping with data collection and assessments.

The position is a full-time ten-month role under the FY 2025-2026 salary schedule, with benefits including health, retirement, and paid time off.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Associate degree or 48 college credits with minimum grade C or higher.
• Pass paraprofessional exam requirements by Aug 31, 2026, or meet Foundations of Classroom Support/Instruction criteria.
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Able to perform restraint techniques and lift up to 40 pounds.
• Experience with students with disabilities is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides support to students during instruction.
• Implements teacher lesson plans with individuals or small groups.
• Works under the teacher's direction to provide instruction to students.
• Assists with data collection, testing, and student assessment.
• Assists with IEP/IFSP implementation for students with special needs.
• Monitors behavior and applies behavioral strategies.
• Assists with personal care needs including lifting, transferring, feeding, toileting, and restraint.
• Prepares instructional materials as directed.
• Assists with school duties and participates in professional development.
• Supports students via digital platforms for instruction and assessment.
• Performs other duties incl. in-person and virtual as applicable.
