Job summary

School City of Hammond is seeking a paraprofessional aide to support teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them reach class skill levels. You will assist the teacher, reinforce materials based on student needs, and help students master instructional materials for ongoing skill development.

General Role and Responsibilities:

• To assist the teacher, achieve teaching Objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole.

General Skills And Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (Special Ed. Aide)
• Prior job experience preferred
• Meet requirements to be highly qualified (Special Ed. Paraprofessional - Associates degree, 60 college credits or pass the Indiana Praxis test)

Specific Responsibilities In This Position

• To work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher
• To assist the teacher in reinforcing materials or skills based on the understanding of individual students, their NEEDS, interest and abilities
• Will help student’s master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teach to provide on-going skill development
• To guide independent study, enrichment work and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher
• To assist with the supervision of students
• To participate in in-service training programs as assigned
• To maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of all staff
