Job summary

Boston College seeks a Special Collections Metadata Librarian for the John J. Burns Library to create robust metadata and MARC21 records across printed and published materials, including early printed items, graphics, AV, maps, manuscripts, and archives.

The role involves collaborating with the Head of Burns Library Collections Management to ensure adherence to DCRM and national best practices while developing initiatives to enhance legacy metadata and facilitate access to diverse formats and

Qualifications

Experience creating metadata in a special collections setting.
At least one year creating MARC21 catalog records following DCRMR.
Proficiency with library systems such as OCLC and Alma.
Reading knowledge of at least one non-English language.
Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited program.

Responsibilities

Create MARC21 catalog records for diverse special collections materials.
Develop and implement legacy metadata assessment and improvement initiatives.
Ensure cataloging policies and metadata creation align with national and local best practices.
Collaborate with Head of Burns Library Collections Management and staff.
