Job description

The Parenting through Pediatrics (PtP) initiative is a new three-year joint project between five national philanthropic funders of early childhood education and development. Our vision is to support the healthy social and emotional development needed to attain kindergarten-readiness for all children, and we aim to do so by changing the standard of care in pediatric well-child visits during the first few years of life to incorporate practices that support social and emotional development. To accomplish this goal, we are working with researchers, practitioners, and a network of communities to study the best programs and interventions in the field and identify the most scalable, evidence-informed practices that could be incorporated into all pediatric settings.

Description of the role

PtP is seeking a Special Assistant to support the implementation of this initiative. This individual will report to the initiative’s co-leaders, who are members of its Steering Committee of funders, Ira Hillman of Einhorn Family Charitable Trust and Katie Beckmann of the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, supporting them across many tasks involved in operating a complex, multi-year philanthropic initiative. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking for an interesting and challenging remote role that leverages their outstanding project management skills and energy in support of a new initiative with potential to have positive impact on our nation’s most disadvantaged children.

Responsibilities
  • Project manage the initiative overall – create and update detailed workplans, ensuring initiative leaders are focused on important and timely priorities
  • Support the initiative’s leaders across a range of activities involved in the execution of this initiative, including diligence of potential grantees, primary and secondary research, etc.
  • Create and update documents and materials to be shared with the Steering Committee, other funders, partners, and the broader field
  • Schedule key initiative meetings (attended by funders, grantees, advisors)
  • Capture notes, key takeaways, and next steps during key initiative meetings
Qualifications and attributes
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Project management experience, including development and execution of project plans and management of diverse stakeholders
  • Extremely organized and detail-oriented
  • Highly proactive and self-driven
  • Adaptable, able to respond to weekly challenges while staying focused on long-term goals
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
  • (Preferred) Experience or demonstrated interest in the early childhood and/or health space
Location, hours, and compensation
  • Contract role for minimum of six months with potential to extend up to two years
  • Remote role, geography is flexible but must be generally available 12-5pm ET Monday thru Friday
  • Travel for 1-2 day meeting approximately once per quarter
  • Estimated 20-32 hours per week, with some weeks more and others less
  • Salary negotiable pending experience and qualifications
