The New York State Police Division seeks a Special Assistant (Artificial Intelligence Specialist) to conduct applied research and analytics on operational data, implement AI tools, and develop AI literacy and training programs.

The role involves evaluating data collection methods, analyzing crime and public safety trends, managing AI pilot programs, and establishing governance for responsible AI adoption, reporting to Planning, Research and Development leadership.

Competenze

• 7 years of professional experience in CS, statistics, data science, data analytics, social science, public policy, AI or closely related field (or bachelor's degree).
• Experience with applied research in government and/or public safety contexts.
• Training in advanced quantitative methods, geospatial analysis, predictive analysis, and statistical software.
• Experience evaluating software on basis of cost, benefit, accuracy, and compliance.
• Knowledge of data privacy laws and responsible AI frameworks.
• Strong written and oral communication skills to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.

The Special Assistant (Artificial Intelligence Specialist) will support the New York State Police Division by conducting applied research and analytics on operational data, implementing and integrating AI tools across the organization, and developing AI literacy and training programs. The role requires evaluating data collection methods, analyzing trends in crime and public safety metrics, managing AI pilot programs, and establishing governance frameworks for responsible AI adoption. The incumbent will report to Planning, Research and Development leadership and serve as a resource for Division stakeholders.

Key qualifications:

• 7 years of professional experience in computer science, statistics, data science, data analytics, social science, public policy, artificial intelligence or closely related field (or bachelor's degree


• Experience with applied research in government and/or public safety contexts


• Training or demonstrated experience with advanced quantitative methods, geospatial analysis, predictive analysis, and statistical software


• Experience evaluating software and technology on basis of cost, benefit, accuracy, and compliance


• Knowledge or experience with data privacy laws and responsible AI frameworks


• Strong written and oral communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences
