Job description

GAI Consultants is seeking a Field Engineer for an on-site position with a client in Indonesia. The Field Engineer will work an 8-week on, 3-week off rotation at the client site, collaborating closely with the client and local utility to maintain and improve the electrical system in the area. The candidate must be comfortable working in a remote environment with a multi-national, multi-disciplinary team, designing and maintaining electrical systems with unique challenges. Responsibilities include transmission, distribution, and substation design, client interaction, proposal preparation, design review, QA/QC, and field issue resolution.

Job Responsibilities

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Up to approximately 85% of duties involve technical work such as engineering design, drawing creation, bills of material development, permit development, and QA/QC.
  • Provide technical guidance, implement engineering methods, and serve as a resource for engineers and designers.
  • Perform complex tasks with some autonomy in process determination.
  • Coordinate with client construction contractors and GAI construction managers to ensure project specifications are met.
  • Make engineering decisions in the field to resolve construction issues.
  • Offer feedback to the US design team on proposed and final designs.

Project Management Responsibilities:

  • Approximately 15% of duties involve assisting with project management.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager on scope, schedule, and fee development.
  • Communicate project progress, identify out-of-scope work, and flag issues affecting schedule or budget.

Business Development Responsibilities:

  • Act as the on-site liaison between the client and GAI, managing relationships and identifying new opportunities.

Experience:

  • Minimum 8 years of related experience, or less with an advanced degree and at least 2 years of project leadership; preferred 10+ years.
  • Effective communication skills with clients and team members.
  • Expertise in electric transmission line design and engineering principles.
  • Project management skills including scheduling and budgeting.
  • Proficiency in relevant software such as PLS-CADD, PLS-Tower, CAD, Microsoft Office, and database systems.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk in steep, varying terrain in all climates.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive.
  • Lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Pass physical exam for work visa requirements.
  • Covid-19 vaccination and compliance with other vaccine requirements.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Valid state-issued driver’s license.
  • Passport.

Travel Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, up to 100% during rotations.
