Job description

Save Lives Every Day. Practice Great Medicine. Enjoy the Work-Life Balance You Deserve.

Are you looking for a veterinary career where your skills have an immediate, lasting impact—and where you can enjoy evenings and weekends with family and friends?

At PetFix Northeast Ohio, every surgery prevents future suffering. Every patient helps reduce pet homelessness. Every day, you'll know your work truly matters.

Since opening our doors in 2006, we've performed more than 145,000 high-quality spay/neuter surgeries for family pets, shelter animals, rescue groups, and community cats throughout Northeast Ohio. Now, with the opening of a second clinic, we're expanding our lifesaving mission and looking for another outstanding veterinarian to join our team.

If you're passionate about surgery, believe every pet deserves access to affordable veterinary care, and want to work alongside a dedicated, mission‑driven team, we'd love to hear from you.

Why You'll Love Working at PetFix

Make a lasting difference. Every day, you'll help prevent pet overpopulation, reduce shelter overcrowding, and keep pets with the families who love them. Your work will directly improve the lives of thousands of animals each year.

Enjoy an exceptional work-life balance. Veterinary medicine doesn't have to mean burnout.

At PetFix, you'll enjoy:
  • Monday-Friday, 8am-2pm
  • No evenings; No weekends
  • No emergency or on-call responsibilities
  • Predictable daytime hours
  • Limited client interaction
  • No pressure to sell services or discuss financial limitations
  • You'll spend your day practicing surgery— not navigating long appointments, production quotas, or after‑hours emergencies.
Focus on What You Love

Our veterinarians spend their time performing surgery and delivering exceptional patient care. You'll be supported by an experienced team of Registered Veterinary Technicians, veterinary assistants, and client service staff who share your commitment to excellence.

Outstanding Benefits
  • $100,000+ annually, based on experience
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid holidays
  • Generous paid time off
  • Significant discounts on care for your own pets
  • Bonus opportunities
  • Retirement savings plan
  • Professional licensing and dues assistance
  • Continuing education allowance
  • Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) eligibility as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit employer
About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, you'll provide high-quality surgical care while helping ensure every patient receives compassionate, safe, and efficient treatment from admission through recovery. You'll work in a collaborative, high-quality, high-volume environment where patient safety and excellent outcomes are always the top priorities.

Your Responsibilities
Surgical Care
  • Perform high-quality canine and feline spay/neuter surgeries in accordance with PetFix protocols and accepted veterinary standards
  • Conduct thorough pre-operative examinations to determine surgical candidacy
  • Evaluate patients following surgery to ensure safe recovery before discharge
  • Perform post-operative rechecks and follow-up care when needed

  • Oversee anesthesia, pain management, surgical preparation, and recovery in partnership with the veterinary team
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to medical concerns or emergencies
  • Communicate with pet owners regarding medical findings or post-operative concerns when necessary
Medical Records & Compliance
  • Maintain complete and accurate medical records, including pre-operative examinations, surgical notes, discharge instructions, and follow-up recommendations
  • Ensure appropriate documentation and oversight of controlled substances
  • Support infection‑control practices and maintain a safe, clean surgical environment
Team Collaboration
  • Work closely with veterinary technicians and assistants to deliver outstanding patient care
  • Provide guidance and support to the medical team throughout the surgical day
  • Help maintain a positive, collaborative, and mission-focused workplace culture

Join a Team That's Changing Lives

At PetFix, you're not just performing surgeries—you're helping build a future where fewer animals enter shelters and more families can afford the care their pets deserve.

If you're ready to join a respected nonprofit organization where your work is valued, your schedule supports your life outside of work, and your impact is felt every single day, we'd love to hear from you.
