Position Title: Spanish Speaker Research Assistant for Housing Justice Oral History Project

Location: New York City

Position Type: Student

Department: PSD/School of Design Strategies

Work Mode: Virtual Position

Hourly Rate: 30.16 USD per hour

Hours per Week: 5-10 depending on student availability

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth oral history interviews with individuals and communities to document personal experiences, cultural traditions, and historical events.
  • Record, transcribe, and archive interviews using appropriate methodologies and digital tools.
  • Ensure ethical and legal compliance regarding consent, copyright, and intellectual property rights in oral history documentation.
  • Analyze and interpret oral histories for historical research, publications, exhibitions, and educational purposes.
  • Manage and maintain digital and physical collections of recorded interviews and related materials.
  • Present findings through reports, presentations, lectures, and publications.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree students from History, Anthropology, Cultural Studies, Urban Studies, or a related field.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively on long-term research projects.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Full domination of Spanish (native)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in oral history interviewing, transcription, and archiving.
  • Strong research, analytical, and storytelling skills.
  • Familiarity with audio and video recording equipment, transcription software, and digital archiving tools.
