Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required (Spanish, Latin American studies, Spanish Literature, or related field).
  • Master's degree in secondary education or related content area preferred.
  • Experience teaching Spanish at the secondary level strongly preferred.
  • Experience delivering literature courses and teaching DP Spanish (Language A) or IB Language and Literature.
  • Proficiency with multiple technology platforms (including Gmail and G-Suite).
  • Experience implementing IB DP pedagogy and 1:1 Chromebook program.

Responsibilities

  • Provide IB Spanish education to students during the school year, all taught in Spanish.
  • Plan and deliver instruction and coordinate IB Spanish curriculum and assessments.
  • Advise students through the advisory program and support the instructional program.
  • Collaborate with general and special educators, coordinators, and leadership.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

District of Columbia International School (DCI) is a public charter school serving over 1600 racially and economically diverse students in grades 6-12 across the District of Columbia. The education centers on an International Baccalaureate curriculum, advanced language learning in Chinese, Spanish, and French, and a culture focused on student agency supported by 1:1 technology.

Position Overview

DCI is hiring a full‑time Spanish Language and Literature Teacher. This role involves instructional and planning responsibilities for providing IB Spanish education to students during the school year, all taught in Spanish.

Salary Range

$63,113 – $105,575 (starting salary determined by education and years of relevant experience).

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree required (degree in Spanish, Latin American studies, Spanish Literature, or related field preferred).
  • Master's Degree in secondary education or this content area preferred.
  • Previous experience teaching Spanish at a secondary level strongly preferred.
  • Experience teaching both literary and non‑literary texts.
  • Experience delivering literature courses.
  • Proficiency in using multiple technology platforms to guide instruction and communicate with students and families (including Gmail and G‑Suite).
  • Experience incorporating International Baccalaureate pedagogy.
  • Clear background check.

  • Bilingual and biliterate in Spanish.
  • Past experience teaching DP Spanish (Language A), IB Language and Literature, and similar AP and Honors courses.
  • Delivery of exceptional Spanish instruction through immersion methods to diverse learners.
  • Curriculum planning using the IB DP Language curriculum framework.
  • Ability to advise students, including teaching an advisory class using the advisory curriculum, and support other aspects of the school’s instructional program.
  • Organized, responsible, and accountable in a high‑performing charter school environment.
  • Proactive classroom management aligned with the school's discipline approach to maximize student engagement and learning.
  • Openness to feedback and real‑time improvement.
  • Interest in engaging with the IB DP, MYP, and language immersion programs.
  • Professional development dedication following IB DP guidelines.
  • Collaboration with general and special educators, coordinators, and leadership.
  • Strong communication via various mediums with parents and students.
  • Embrace and promote French, Spanish, and Chinese cultures through faculty and student activities.
  • Implementation of the 1:1 Chromebook program, integrating technology into instruction.
  • Ability to perform other duties as assigned.
