Job summary

Siouxland Community Health Center is seeking a part-time Spanish interpreter to support clinical visits by translating between patients and staff. The position requires fluency in Spanish and English and is scheduled Monday-Thursday 4 pm–8 pm and Friday 12 pm–5 pm.

The interpreter will assist patients with intake forms, explain medical information, and help navigate social services, traveling to local agencies as needed. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• Fluency in Spanish and English for medical settings.
• Basic computer and data entry skills.
• Knowledge of medical terminology in both languages.
• Experience interpreting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide translation services during clinical visits for non-English speaking patients and their families.
• Collaborate with medical staff to ensure accurate communication.
• Assist patients with completing intake forms and medical history, demographic, and financial information.
• Assist social service staff with the social service intake process.
• Travel to local agencies or hospitals to provide interpreting services as needed.

Hours: Monday-Thursday 4 pm to 8 pm and Friday 12 pm to 5 pm

Qualifications

• Fluency in verbal, reading and written bilingual communication skills - Spanish & English
• Basic computer and data entry skills
• Knowledge of cultural barriers to medical care and ability to diminish barriers on the patients' and SCHC's behalf
• Knowledge of medical terminology in Spanish and in English
• High school diploma or GED
• Previous experience interpreting preferred

Responsibilities

• Provide translation services and support the non-English speaking patients and their families during their clinical visit
• Work directly with medical staff to ensure accurate communication and understanding between patient and staff
• Assist patients in completing all necessary intake forms at initial visit, including but not limited to, demographic and medical history, and financial verification
• Assist social service worker and patient in completing the social service intake process
• Travel to local agencies or hospitals to provide interpreting services as needed
• These functions are not all inclusive
