Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer in Washington to translate engineering intent into precise work instructions for machined components. You will support mills, lathes, multi-axis and EDM machinery, develop manufacturing processes, and improve quality and cost efficiency.

The role requires 2+ years machining experience and strong GD&T skills. Relocation is provided, and the position includes travel to Blue Origin sites in AL, FL, and TX up to 10%.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years machining experience developing manufacturing process requirements.
  • Ability to interpret engineering models, drawings, specs, and work instructions.
  • Experience designing, measuring, modifying, and monitoring processes.
  • Clear communication at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent blueprint reading skills including GD&T per ASME Y14.5M-1994.
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated to meet project deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, develop, and deploy or refine manufacturing methods to improve quality, reduce cost and optimize build schedule.
  • Translate engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into fully functional, high quality machined components.
  • Develop manufacturing work instructions to clearly define manufacturing process.
  • Define how to set up hardware for machining on mills, lathes, multi-axis and EDM machines.
  • Conduct DFM and PFMEA studies to strengthen the feedback loop between design and machining.
  • Perform engineering drawing review and provide final approval for manufacturing.
  • Define and support repair and rework activities for machined components.
  • Design, procure, install, and integrate custom manufacturing equipment.
  • Perform root cause analyses when non-conformances and escapes are identified and deploy corrective actions.
  • Manage hardware configuration and maintain pedigree throughout the entire machining process.
  • Safely work within an industrial environment.
  • Travel up to 10% to Blue Origin sites: AL, FL, and TX.
