Job summary

Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, MD seeks engineers across disciplines to design and build spaceflight instruments, including magnetometers, imagers, and spectrometers. You will join a multi-disciplinary team of electrical, computer, FPGA, and software engineers.

Responsibilities include analog, digital, and mixed-signal design, FPGA development, hardware testing, documentation, and collaboration with scientists.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, computer, or software engineering or closely related field.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; team oriented.
  • Strong technical experience from at least one internship, research, or project outside of classroom.
  • Familiarity with schematic capture and circuit simulation tools.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally (5%) to facilities and sub-contractors.
  • Willingness to support shift work occasionally (5%) during Integration and Test events.
  • Ability to obtain a Top Secret security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design of analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronics for space flight instruments.
  • Contribute to FPGA and embedded software development for instrument electronics.
  • Assemble, integrate, and test electronic hardware and instrument subsystems.
  • Conduct laboratory testing, debug hardware and software, and verify performance against requirements.
  • Contribute throughout the instrument lifecycle from concept to environmental testing.
  • Prepare design documentation, test procedures, and technical reports.
