Job summary

KBR is seeking an experienced mechanical designer to develop novel concepts for space flight instruments, including electro-mechanical systems, MGSE, and opto-mechanical assemblies. You will support the Spacecraft Mechanical Lead with concept design, detailed flight assembly modeling, and drawing generation in Creo and SolidWorks.

The role requires 5+ years in space/aerospace hardware design, proficiency in SolidWorks and Creo, GD&T per ASME Y14.5, and WindChill PLM experience. U.S.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in space/aerospace/defense hardware design
  • Hands-on experience with spacecraft hardware through environmental testing and into launch preferred
  • Proficient with Engineering Drawing Practices per ASME Y14.1 and GD&T per ASME Y14.5
  • Proficient with WindChill PLM and CM systems
  • Experience with sheet metal, piping, cabling, routed systems is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical design of structures, moving mechanisms, opto-mechanical assemblies, and MGSE for space flight environments
  • Develop CAD models in SolidWorks or Creo
  • Generate production-ready drawings and assembly details
  • Apply GD&T per ASME Y14.5 to ensure fit, form and function
  • Select aerospace-grade materials and hardware based on space-flight requirements
  • Collaborate with analysis teams to generate FEMs and update designs
  • Attend weekly mechanical status meetings and assist in design reviews
