Job description

The Aerospace Corporation is the trusted partner to the nation’s space programs, solving the hardest problems and providing unmatched technical expertise. As the operator of a federally funded research and development center (FFRDC), we are broadly engaged across all aspects of space— delivering innovative solutions that span satellite, launch, ground, and cyber systems for defense, civil and commercial customers. When you join our team, you’ll be part of a special collection of problem solvers, thought leaders, and innovators. Join us and take your place in space.

Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analysis-based decision support to senior leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, development planning, system of systems engineering, and threat reduction to help shape the future space missions across the national security space (NSS) enterprise. DSG is unique at Aerospace as it not only directly supports major customers, including US Space Force, U.S Space Command, Air Force Materiel Command, and senior leadership at the Pentagon, but also provides a broad range of services and support across the national space enterprise, maintaining vertical responsibilities with customers but also horizontal, matrixed responsibilities across the corporation. DSG also assists the Space Force Space Systems Command (SSC) in the conception, design, acquisition, launch and operations of satellite, launch vehicle, ground control, and range systems.

As a Space Warfighting Engineer (Project Engineer/Senior Project Engineer – Enterprise Systems Engineering), you will analyze the performance of command, control, and communications (C3) that enable space mission areas including Orbital Warfare (OW), Electromagnetic Warfare (EW), and Cyberspace Warfare (CW), Satellite Communications (SATCOM), Navigation Warfare (NAVWAR), Missile Warning and Tracking (MWT), Space-Based Sensing and Targeting (SBST), and Theater Electromagnetic Warfare (TEW). In this role, you will collaborate across space programs and communicate your analysis findings to the government to provide technical advice on the C3 system capabilities needed for military space operations. Your end-to-end systems integration work will ensure critical commands propagate across communication networks to space systems that deliver space warfighting effects.

This position requires full-time on-site presence at our facility in El Segundo, CA.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Work independently with customers and with technical support, to develop engineering assessments of C3 systems integration and satellite control telemetry, tracking, and command (TT&C) capabilities
  • Lead modeling, simulation, and analysis efforts to characterize the performance of C3 and TT&C systems of systems
  • Identify analytically grounded risks, issues, gaps, and opportunities for C3 and TT&C systems
  • Develop system of system C3 and TT&C capability requirements needed across the space mission areas
  • Coordinate across government and program offices to conduct technical exchanges, collect data, and communicate study findings

  • Willing to travel up to approximately 15% time
