SSI is seeking a Space Vehicle Systems Engineer with a strong desire to enhance space resiliency. This position provides Systems Engineering and Technical Advisory (SETA) support to our customer in Chantilly, VA, offering unparalleled insight into an emerging mission area and opportunities to secure our nation’s space enterprise.

The Space Vehicle Systems Engineer will provide SETA support to a customer charged with delivering solutions across rapidly expanding complex space and ground system initiatives. The Space Vehicle Systems Engineer will work closely with Government and SETA staff to plan, deliver, maintain, and enhance critical mission capabilities for the customer enterprise.

The Space Vehicle Systems Engineer supports the System Program Office (SPO) in a technical capacity for planning, execution, monitoring, and oversight of satellite system development and acquisitions that advance the space resiliency posture.

The Space Vehicle Systems Engineer is an individual contributor and member of a team of high-performing Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) that directly support the Government through lifecycle systems engineering and management processes to deliver critical space resiliency capabilities.

Responsibilities
  • Support Contract Officer/Contract Officer Technical Representatives (CO/COTRs) and Developers by coordinating with other technical domain Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and program stakeholders to achieve a detailed understanding of the systems, designs, and interfaces necessary to satisfy mission requirements.
  • Represent the government client to development contractors by participating in programmatic, design, and readiness reviews, as well as various working groups.
  • Develop documents and briefings to communicate work or study status, brief Government and industry as required.
  • Provide support to the acquisition, source selection, and programmatic processes.
  • Assist COTR in managing space vehicle technical budgets, design integration, and system test efforts with close collaboration with subsystem SETAs and COTRs.
  • Assist with the development of proposal documentation and subsequent technical evaluation of contractor proposals.
  • Design and implement technical solutions for new business needs and challenges.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline, and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance with a Polygraph.
  • Experience with space systems design, development, assembly, integration, and testing.
  • Experience with the Intelligence Community (IC) and/or the Department of Defense.
  • Experience with IC architectures, spacecraft, and payloads.
  • Ability to lead and be the primary point of contact for one or more projects.
  • Effective interpersonal skills (across multiple groups, offices, and organizations) and strong customer engagement skills.
  • Ability to communicate very technical subjects to a diverse audience of senior decision-makers with varying levels of technical expertise using effective briefing and writing.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, and team environment.
