Job summary

Vanderbilt University’s School of Engineering invites applications for an open-rank, tenured/tenure-track faculty position in Mechanical Engineering focused on space applications. The hire will contribute to the Innovation Beyond the Earth initiative and build a strong research program while teaching core ME courses and expanding graduate offerings.

The successful candidate will have a strong theoretical foundation and a clear vision for applying mechanical engineering principles to space

Qualifications

• Develop a strong externally funded research program.
• Teach core mechanical engineering courses and contribute to graduate offerings.
• Experience in experimental or computational research is encouraged.
• Experience applying AI and machine-learning tools in research or teaching is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead externally funded research programs in mechanical engineering systems for space applications.
