Starpath in Los Angeles (Hawthorne) seeks a Polymer Chemist to own encapsulants, barrier systems, and encapsulation chemistries for space solar hardware. You’ll drive formulation, qualification, and integration to survive moisture, oxygen, thermal cycling, UV and radiation on years in orbit.

The role emphasizes translating bench chemistry into scalable production with cross-functional teams in Starlight Solar, aerospace, and manufacturing engineering.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in polymer chemistry, chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, or a related discipline
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with polymer encapsulants, adhesives, or barrier films for sensitive optoelectronic devices

Responsabilités

• Develop polymer encapsulants, edge seals, barrier films, and adhesives for perovskite solar hardware
• Engineer moisture and oxygen barrier systems with ultra-low WVTR and OTR
• Develop low-temperature curing and lamination processes compatible with perovskite processing constraints
• Drive root-cause investigations on bonding, outgassing, delamination, and degradation
• Characterize polymer materials and bonded joints using FTIR, DSC, TGA, WVTR/OTR, and bonding tests
• Evaluate polymer performance under space environments—outgassing, thermal cycling, UV, atomic oxygen, radiation
• Translate bench chemistry into stable, scalable production processes with manufacturing engineering
• Reduce unnecessary complexity to optimize curing and manufacturing efficiency
