Job summary

KBR, Inc. seeks an Integrated Protection Strategy Engineer – Intermediate to support conjunction assessment and mitigation strategies that protect space assets.

You will analyze orbital data, assess collision risks, and coordinate avoidance maneuvers with mission operations in a fast-paced government environment. This full-time, on-site role at a government facility requires mastery of orbital mechanics, astrodynamics, and tools like STK or FreeFlyer, with an active TS/SCI clearance.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree with 7 years of relevant experience, or Bachelor’s with 8 years, or no degree with 10 years.
• Experience in orbital mechanics, astrodynamics, or related aerospace engineering disciplines.
• Proficiency with conjunction assessment tools and orbital propagation software (e.g., STK, FreeFlyer, or equivalent).
• Active TS/SCI clearance with adjudicated polygraph.

Responsibilities

• Perform conjunction assessments using industry-standard tools and models to evaluate collision risk.
• Analyze orbital data and propagate trajectories to predict potential conjunctions.
• Support planning and execution of collision avoidance maneuvers in coordination with mission operations.
• Maintain accurate documentation of assessments, risk evaluations, and maneuver decisions.
• Assist in developing and refining collision avoidance algorithms and decision-support tools.
• Participate in anomaly resolution and post-event analysis for conjunction-related incidents.
• Collaborate with external organizations for data exchange and coordination of avoidance actions.
• Contribute to process improvement for automation and accuracy in collision avoidance systems.
• Ensure compliance with standards, regulations, and best practices for space safety.
