Job summary

KBR, Inc. seeks an Integrated Protection Strategy Engineer – Intermediate to support conjunction assessment and mitigation strategies that protect space assets.

This full-time, on-site role at a government facility requires mastery of orbital mechanics, astrodynamics, and tools like STK or FreeFlyer, with an active TS/SCI clearance.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with 7 years of relevant experience, or Bachelor’s with 8 years, or no degree with 10 years.
  • Experience in orbital mechanics, astrodynamics, or related aerospace engineering disciplines.
  • Proficiency with conjunction assessment tools and orbital propagation software (e.g., STK, FreeFlyer, or equivalent).
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with adjudicated polygraph.

Responsibilities

  • Perform conjunction assessments using industry-standard tools and models to evaluate collision risk.

KBR is seeking Integrated Protection Strategy Engineer – Intermediate, to support the development and execution of conjunction assessment and mitigation strategies to ensure the safety of space assets. This role involves analyzing orbital data, assessing collision risks, and coordinating avoidance maneuvers in collaboration with mission operations teams. The engineer will contribute to improving tools and processes for conjunction analysis while maintaining compliance with established standards. Candidates should demonstrate technical proficiency in orbital mechanics and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operational environment. This position provides opportunities for growth into senior technical leadership roles and participation in advanced space safety initiatives. This role is performed full-time on site at a government facility and is contingent upon contract award.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Perform conjunction assessments using industry-standard tools and models to evaluate collision risk.

Required Qualifications:
  • Education & Experience: Master’s degree and 7 years of relevant experience with demonstrated expertise, OR Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of relevant experience with demonstrated expertise, OR No degree and 10 years of relevant experience with demonstrated expertise.
  • Demonstrated experience in orbital mechanics, astrodynamics, or related aerospace engineering disciplines.
  • Proficiency with conjunction assessment tools and orbital propagation software (e.g., STK, FreeFlyer, or equivalent).
  • Active Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance with adjudicated polygraph.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with automated collision avoidance systems and space traffic management.
  • Familiarity with international space safety standards and coordination protocols (e.g., CCSDS, ISO).
Basic Compensation:

$125,500.00 - $153,400.00 (this is for Springfield, VA area only)

The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.

Additional Compensation:

KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of sign on bonus, relocation benefits, short-term incentives, long-term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
