Job summary

CACI International is seeking a Space Radiation & Survivability Engineer to join our engineering team. You will analyze and verify spacecraft systems to ensure survivability in harsh radiation environments across mission life.

This is a mid-level role with growing ownership of radiation effects analysis and hardware survivability tasks. Applicants should have 3–5 years in space radiation effects, strong documentation skills, and hands-on experience with tools like FASTRAD or CREME96.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, electrical, physics, or related engineering field.
• 3–5 years of space radiation effects or survivability experience.
• Knowledge of space radiation environments and effects on electronics (TID/DDD/SEE).
• Familiarity with radiation analysis tools such as FASTRAD or CREME96.
• Ability to produce clear technical documentation and reports.

Responsibilities

• Define radiation environment for various orbits and mission profiles.
• Perform TID, DDD, and SEE analyses on components and subsystems.
• Support shielding analysis and mass trade studies to meet radiation tolerance requirements.
• Work with parts engineering to assess radiation hardness assurance of EEE parts.
• Support survivability analyses against charging, MMOD, thermal extremes, and EMP/nuclear environments.
• Develop and maintain radiation analysis tools and models (e.g., FASTRAD, CREME96).
• Collaborate with systems engineers, hardware designers, and part engineers to translate requirements into design guidelines.
• Participate in design reviews (PDR/CDR) and generate analysis documentation.
• Support radiation qualification testing planning and execution (TID/SEE/proton tests).
• Document methodologies and results in formal reports and memos.
• Interface with customers and government agencies on radiation requirements.
