Job summary

VTG is seeking a Space Protection Operations Engineer to join the Air Force, Space, and Intelligence Business Group. The role provides systems engineering and technical advisory services to a government IC customer developing next-generation space systems.

Travel to locations in the DC metro area may be required weekly. The position serves as SME and SPO representative coordinating with end users, developers, and other stakeholders to deploy new protection capabilities into space operations.

Qualifications

• Active Top Secret/SCI clearance with Polygraph.
• Bachelor’s degree required with 9+ years experience; Master’s with 7+ years acceptable in lieu of degree.
• Experience in IC/DoD space acquisitions or mission operations.
• Experience deploying and sustaining software in 24/7 operations centers.

Responsibilities

• Act as SME and SPO representative coordinating with end users, developers, and stakeholders for deployment of protection capabilities.
• Serve as SPO on-site agent for user engagement with space protection system operators.
• Support testing, transition to operations planning, user training, O&M planning and deficiency report management.
• Lead review and coordination of system documentation and training materials.
• Evaluate developer solutions and guidance software deployment activities.

Overview

The customer is developing thenext generationof space and ground systems, architectures, and hardware and software solutions.This positionmay requireweeklytravelto other locations in the Washington, DC metro area.

What will you do?

TheSpace Protection Operations Engineerwill serve asthe subject matter expert (SME) and System Program Office (SPO) representative coordinating with end user operators, the developer, and other stakeholdersforthedeployment of new protection capabilities into space operations. TheSpace ProtectionOperationsEngineeris theSPO's on-siteagentfor user-engagementwithoperatorsof a space protection systemand willcollaboratewithsite users andSMEs withinthe SPOhome officetosupport systemtesting,transition to operations planning, user/operator training,Operations and Maintenance(O&M)planningandDeficiency Report (DR)management, andbethe focal point forrepresenting SPO equitiesto thesite'sOperations stakeholders.

TheSpace ProtectionOperationsEngineerresponsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Providesspace protectionoperationsmissionexpertisetoacquisitionmanagers andsoftwareengineersin the development oftoolsthatprovideoperatorsIndications and WarningagainstSpacethreats.


• Elicitssystem capability needs and user interface/experience (UI/UX) preferences from operational users.


• Collaborateswith software developers to inform/guide mission application enhancements.


• Managesthe transition of new capabilities and software deliveries to operations.


• Leadsthe review and coordination of system documentation and training materials.


• Evaluatesdeveloper solutions, guidessoftware deployment activities, and assessessoftware patches/fixes.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor'sand9or moreyearsofexperience;master'sand7or moreyearsofexperience; Extensive experience may be considered in lieu of degree.


• Experience inICorDoWspaceacquisitions ormission operations.


• Experiencedeployingand sustainingsoftwarewithin a 24/7operations centeror similar environment.


• Knowledge of agile software development principles.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experiencewith DevOps, includingcontinuous integration and continuous delivery/deployment(CI/CD).


• Experiencein Space Protectionoperations and familiarity withprotection technologies.


• Experience authoring operator-related or software deployment documentation.


• Experience in Space system testing,simulation, and modeling environments.


• Knowledge of the fundamentals of orbital mechanics and orbit determination.

Pay Range: VTG's estimated starting pay range is $130,000 - $197,000 annually, which is a general guideline for the geographic location. When extending an offer, VTG also considers work experience, education, skill level, market considerations and may possibly include contractual requirements which may cause an offer to fall outside of this range.
