Job summary

Impulse Space in Redondo Beach is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II for the Vehicle Engineering team. You will own the hardware development lifecycle, from concept to launch, including cradle-to-grave design, analysis, and integration of primary/secondary structures and space mechanisms.

You will collaborate with propulsion, electrical, software, and controls teams; produce detailed drawings; and generate test plans to qualify hardware.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
• 3+ years of demonstrated experience in mechanical design.
• Proficiency in CAD software with ability to learn new tools.
• Ability to model complex shapes including lofting and surfacing.
• Experience in conceptual design, fabrication and testing of hardware.
• Experience working across different teams.
• Ability to communicate technical challenges and rationale.

Responsibilities

• Own all aspects of hardware development from concept through launch.
• Formulate cradle-to-grave road map for hardware.
• Develop structural designs using first principles for primary and secondary structures.
• Perform and document analyses including hand calculations and FEA.
• Source commercial components to support design intent.
• Incorporate manufacturing trades and varied construction methods.
• Guide hardware maturity and manage stakeholders involved.
• Communicate with adjacent subsystems to align hardware assumptions.
• Produce manufacturing drawings with specifications.
• Generate test plans and support structural qualification testing.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and external suppliers for parts and assemblies.
• Update designs and documentation for continuous improvement.
