Job summary

National Geographic Society seeks a Senior Specialist to advance the Space focus area within its Science and Innovation Programs. You’ll develop RFIs/RFPs, evaluate grants, nurture Explorer relationships, and support broader program needs across focus areas.

The role emphasizes collaboration, data-driven program support, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in a fast-paced nonprofit environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required with strong science background.
• Master’s in planetary science, space geology, astronomy or related field preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Experience managing programs or partnerships in nonprofit contexts is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Strategy and program development for Space portfolio and cross‑divisional initiatives.
• Grant evaluation, funding decisions, and coordination of Level 1/2 grants.
• Support large programs, landscape analyses, and partnerships with external institutions.
• Collaborate across divisions and with external teams to maximize impact.
