Job summary

Cowboy Space Corp. in Seattle is seeking a Senior Materials & Process Engineer to own material development, qualification, processing integrity, and metallurgy across all vehicle systems.

You will manage heat treatment, welds, brazes, and additive manufacturing, while curating material databases to power design decisions. You will lead joining techniques, LPBF optimization for nickel-based superalloys, drive root-cause analyses, and sign off on drawings and specs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in materials engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of M&P experience, including nickel-based superalloys.
  • 1+ year of additive manufacturing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Establish Factory Standards: Define processes and oversee NDT/NDI methods to ensure manufacturing reliability and repeatability.
  • Develop Joining Techniques: Lead the development of braze and weld joints in the hardware development cycle for vehicle and engine components.
  • Own Material Databases: Drive characterization and development of physical, mechanical, and thermal properties for design databases.
  • Advance Additive Manufacturing: Partner with development and production teams to optimize LPBF processes for nickel-based superalloys.
  • Drive Failure Analysis: Lead rapid root-cause investigations using metallography, fractography, and mechanical testing.
  • Collaborate & Review: Sign off on drawings, specs, and designs to resolve vehicle-level hardware challenges.
  • Build & Lead the Team: Recruit, mentor, and grow a world-class M&P team.
