Job summary

SpaceNews in Albuquerque seeks a Control Systems Engineer to help shape the future of space-based connectivity within its Space Technologies division. You will design, test, and analyze advanced control systems enabling high-bandwidth optical data transfer across the stars.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a Scientific discipline from an accredited four-year university.
  • Strong foundation in classical and state-space control theory.
  • Hands-on experience in a laboratory environment with control systems.
  • Experience with high bandwidth control systems design.
  • Experience working with gimbals and highly actuated mechanical systems.
  • Ability to translate continuous-time control algorithms into discrete-time implementations.
  • US Citizenship able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Algorithm & System Design: Develop robust control algorithms and translate continuous-time control models into high-performing discrete-time implementations.
  • System Identification & Analysis: Conduct rigorous system identification and performance analysis to optimize precision pointing and tracking.
  • Hardware Integration: Work directly with gimbals and other advanced actuated mechanical systems in a laboratory environment.
  • Requirements & Testing: Analyze system-level requirements and conduct hands-on testing and characterization of electro-optic payloads.
