Job summary

Astrion is seeking an Associate Senior Chemist to support the LASSO II contract at Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island, FL. The role includes supervising 1st and 2nd shift laboratory operations, coordinating with customers, and ensuring safety and quality compliance.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in analytical chemistry, extensive lab experience, and supervisory capabilities. US citizenship is required for this role and it is a full-time position.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry; advanced degree preferred.
• Six+ years of lab operations experience with supervisory duties.
• Experience with GC, IR, UV and AAS analytical instruments.
• Knowledge of liquids including solvents, fuels, oils and aviation fuels.

Responsibilities

• Supervise 1st and 2nd shift chemists and technicians.
• Assign staff to optimize resource use.
• Plan analytical procedures for complex analyses.
• Review methods for accuracy and validity.
• Prepare lab reports, test plans, and procedures.
• Assist in special chemical investigations for NASA/Contractor.
• Oversee updates to chemical analysis manuals; approve changes.
• Substitute for Senior Chemist when needed to maintain operations.
• Participate in safety programs and maintain a safe lab.
• Ensure compliance with company standards.
• Plan budget for technical equipment.
• CANDIDATES must pass Kennedy Space Center-provided physicals: Fuel Handler; Visual: Micro-Particle Counter.
