Job summary

The Aerospace Corporation seeks a Safety/Flight Mechanics Engineer (Project Engineer- Flight Mechanics) to support Civil Space Programs. This onsite role is at Cape Canaveral, FL or Washington DC, with about 10% travel.

You will perform safety risk assessments, build debris catalogs, and interface with FAA and other agencies. Requires a STEM BA and 8+ years in complex engineering environments, plus ability to obtain security clearance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with focus on physics, engineering, science, mathematics, or related STEM field.
  • 8+ years of professional engineering/scientific experience in multi-disciplinary environments.
  • Physics of Space Launch/Reentry Operations and Debris Calculations.
  • Knowledge of FAA regulations, particularly PART 450.
  • Understanding policy & regulatory requirements for Commercial Space Launch/Reentry Risk Operations.
  • Casualty assessment & risk management experience.
  • Experience building a Launch/Reentry Vehicle debris catalog & risk analyses.
  • Willing to travel domestically/internationally ~10%.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Safety and Risk Assurance Assessments/Analysis for FAA customers.
  • Provide SME in launch/reentry risk assessments.
  • Ensure safety to the public during space launch/reentry operations.
  • Create physics-based modeling/analysis of launch/reentry vehicles.
  • Interface between customers and Aerospace technical teams.
