Job summary

Northrop Grumman Corp. in Baltimore, MD, seeks an experienced Test Set Design Engineer to design and fabricate the EGSE suite of test sets used to checkout, integrate, and operate Flight hardware during ground tests.

You will lead panel and cable design, perform integration in a lab, and coordinate with multiple teams. The role requires a strong background in electrical design, hands-on troubleshooting, and the ability to obtain/maintain security clearances.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field with 8+ years of relevant experience, Master’s degree in a STEM field with 6+ years of relevant experience, OR PhD in a STEM field with 4+ years of relevant experience required.
  • Proficient in hardware design to include panel and/or cable design, schematic layouts, etc.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in hardware design
  • Active SECRET clearance, with the ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI, is required at time of application

Responsibilities

  • Lead panel and cable design efforts, including electrical interconnects and schematics, while defining and maintaining acceptance criteria, certification procedures, and hardware checkout/troubleshooting standards.
  • Own and drive root cause determination and problem resolution for complex technical issues, ensuring timely documentation, corrective actions, and lessons learned are captured and communicated.
  • Perform and oversee hands‑on integration, checkout, and troubleshooting of test equipment builds in a lab environment, including electrical/continuity checks and functional testing, ensuring compliance with program and safety requirements.
  • Serve as a primary interface with subsystem test engineers, test operators, technicians, systems administrators, security team, and vendors to coordinate and support various test set tasks, resolve conflicts, and maintain alignment with schedule and technical objectives.
  • Lead the full design cycle of EGSE, from initial concept development and trade studies through detailed design, fabrication, integration, and test, including support to design reviews.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to early career engineers and technicians, fostering skill development, promoting best practices, and supporting a culture of continuous improvement.

We have an opening for an experienced Electronics Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in the Space Systems organization. This position is in Baltimore, MD.


Test Set Design Engineer

This requisition is for a Test Set Design Engineer, who will be responsible for the design and fabrication of the Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) suite of test sets. The EGSE test sets are used to checkout, integrate, and operate Flight hardware during ground test. These test sets provide power, control, telemetry, safety interlocking and cooling. This candidate will be part of a small EGSE Design Team supporting a few programs.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Proficient in hardware design to include panel and/or cable design, schematic layouts, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or related STEM discipline

  • Proficient with hands‑on troubleshooting with electrical hardware

  • Proficient with integrated (analog, power, digital) hardware design

  • Proficient with lab test equipment, such as DMMs, O-Scopes, or related

  • Proficient with electrical design tools (e.g., Zuken, AutoCAD, PSpice)

  • Proficient in Test Automation Software (LabView, TCL, MatLab)

  • Active or Current TS/SCI Clearance preferred


Primary Level Salary Range: $135,800.00 - $203,600.00


The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.


Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
