Job summary

The Aerospace Corporation in El Segundo, CA seeks a Space Domain Awareness Research Scientist (Senior MTs or Research Scientist) to analyze sensor systems and perform measurements with prototype instruments, supporting SDA, OPIR and ISR missions for DoD and IC. The role blends architecture studies, data analysis, and hands-on sensor work with travel to observatories.

Ideal candidates hold a PhD in Engineering, Physics or related fields, have 5+ years in optical remote sensing, and are proficient

Qualifications

• PhD in Engineering, Physics, Astronomy, Earth Science, Geodesy or related discipline(s).
• 5 years of post-bachelor’s experience in design, modeling, simulation, and/or fabrication of optical remote sensing systems.
• Experience planning and conducting technical work both independently and collaboratively.
• Oral communication skills evidenced by internal or external presentations.

Responsibilities

• Supporting design, development, test and evaluation of SDA, OPIR and ISR sensor technology and subsystems.
• Conducting specialized performance analysis and architecture studies, and reporting findings.
• Using and maintaining existing hyperspectral sensors and other astronomical instrumentation.
• Traveling to large optical observatories to perform observations.
• Leading technical specialists in design, fabrication, test and maintenance tasks for prototype sensors and on-site telescopes.
• Developing concepts and proposals for next-generation sensors.
