Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Battery Cell Engineer to define and manage cell-level design, development, qualification, and production activities for a common battery used across multiple programs including New Glenn and Lunar. You will work with cross-functional teams to translate vehicle requirements into cell-level specs and collaborate with suppliers to evaluate cell technologies meeting mission needs.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Chemical, Material Science, Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of direct experience testing lithium-ion batteries; 3+ year in space applications desired.
• Strong understanding of electrochemistry properties of lithium-ion batteries; demonstrated experience in characterizing lithium-ion cell.
• Familiar with dQdV, dVdQ analytical techniques and other electrochemical techniques such as EIS, GITT, CV, PITT.

Responsibilities

• Define cell-level requirements and collaborate with suppliers for cell selection.
• Design, develop, and execute test methods to evaluate lithium-ion cells; coordinate internal and external testing.
• Drive cell selection decisions based on test results and data.
• Support model creation and validation using cell data.
• Work with battery pack design team to improve cell/pack performance including thermal runaway resistance.
