Job Summary
As the leader of the health care team, provides professional nursing care, utilizing the nursing process in accordance with established standards of care, policies, and procedures. Demonstrates performance consistent with the Medical Center Vision, Mission, and Strategic Plan of the organization. Remains flexible to changing systems; is expected to demonstrate quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice; and treats co-workers, patients, families, and all members of the health care team with dignity and respect.

Essential Responsibilities
The Registered Nurse demonstrates proficiency by exhibiting the following skills, competencies, and behaviors:

  • Discusses care plans with patients and families in a timely manner.
  • Monitors patient progress and revises plans as needed.
  • Ensures standards of practice are met.
  • Coordinates discharge planning, including patient education and barrier identification.
  • Maintains patient safety, including medication safety, fall prevention, and infection control.
  • Optimizes pain management and patient comfort.
  • Ensures patient understanding of medications and discharge instructions.
Documentation
  • Ensures accurate, legible, and timely charting.
  • Documents nursing interventions and evaluations appropriately.
  • Uses computer systems effectively for patient care documentation.
Clinical Outcomes
  • Discusses patient findings and progress with the healthcare team.
  • Demonstrates competency during probation and ongoing validation.
  • Makes comprehensive nursing decisions based on data and assessments.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
