Job summary

Vaco Recruiter Services seeks an interim SOX Tester to support a public technology client in the San Francisco Bay Area for about six weeks, starting mid-October 2026. The consultant will conduct walkthroughs, validate controls, and prepare audit-ready workpapers.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in public accounting or related controls functions, hands-on SOX testing experience, and progress toward CPA certification.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in public accounting, SOX, or related controls.
• CPA progression required; CPA preferred.
• Experience conducting SOX walkthroughs and testing design/operating effectiveness.

Responsibilities

• Conduct and document SOX walkthroughs with business and finance process owners.
• Review process narratives and risk-control matrices to validate key controls and testing attributes.
• Perform tests of design and operating effectiveness for manual and automated controls.
• Select testing samples, evaluate supporting evidence, and document conclusions in audit-ready workpapers.
• Coordinate evidence requests and follow up with stakeholders across Accounting, Finance, and Operations.
• Prepare documentation for external auditor review and reliance.
• Identify potential control gaps and assist with deficiency documentation and remediation tracking.
• Apply accounting and internal controls knowledge when evaluating business processes and control design.
