Position Overview

HDR is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Business Class Leader for the Southwest Region, which includes Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah. The leader will collaborate with regional water business managers, market sector leaders, national and regional business class leaders, project managers, subject matter experts, and business development teams to grow our wastewater treatment practice. The role involves providing technical support to regional and national projects, participating in wastewater practice groups, and engaging with professional organizations. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership and technical skills to oversee large wastewater treatment projects and mentor engineers at all levels.

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead strategic engagement with wastewater clients in the Southwest through technical workshops and professional organization involvement.
• Manage large, multidisciplinary wastewater treatment projects, including visioning, planning, data analytics, process modeling, and development, covering program management, planning, Owner’s Advisor, and detailed design.
• Serve as client and project manager for regional and national projects as needed.
• Support scope development and execution with technical professionals across disciplines.
• Participate in Project Approach and Resource Reviews (PARR), providing guidance.
• Identify and propose Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for regional and national projects, including emerging technologies.
• Engage in high-profile project pursuits, leveraging experience and client relationships.
• Manage a team of wastewater engineers and related professionals, coordinating with regional leadership.
• Mentor staff, ensure quality deliverables, and support business development efforts.
• Contribute to staff management, major project pursuits, and HDR’s technical quality initiatives.
• Participate in budgeting, strategic planning, and initiatives with leadership teams.
• Assist other regional wastewater teams as needed with technical guidance and quality control.
• Engage with professional societies and organizations promoting the water industry.

This position can be based in any Southwest HDR office or remotely.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of relevant wastewater projects and programs experience (preferred).
• Strong analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Experience as a technical leader, project manager, and client manager in the wastewater sector.
• Established client relationships with water utilities in the Southwest U.S.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, or related field.
• Minimum of 10 years’ related experience.
• Professional registration and relevant technical expertise.
• Experience managing diverse teams and collaborating with regional leaders.
• Commitment to quality, improvement, and HDR values.

Locations & Other Details
