Job description

Position: Assistant Lecturer or Assistant Instructor in Broadcast and Multi-Media Journalism

Institution: The School of Journalism and Advertising at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, College of Arts and Media

This is a term non-tenure track appointment that may be renewable.

Qualifications:

  1. For the rank of Assistant Instructor: Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism or a related field.
  2. For the rank of Assistant Lecturer: Master’s Degree in Journalism, Radio-Television or a related field.

This position is for a seasoned broadcast industry professional. The successful candidate will teach seated and online courses in the areas of broadcast and multi-media production including:

  1. Producing across platforms
  2. Writing for the mass media
  3. Audio journalism
  4. Sports reporting
  5. Video editing

They will be assigned to work with student-produced news entities including The Daily Egyptian, River Region Evening Edition, and Saluki Sports View. They will collaborate with the staff of WSIU Public Broadcasting Service and are expected to become an active member of the department.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. A minimum of 7 years of professional experience as a multi-media journalist with a particular emphasis in news.
  2. Two years minimum experience as a News Director.
  3. Experience with television equipment such as camcorders, editing software, and studio equipment.
  4. A Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Radio, Television, Communications or a related field is required by the date of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. 10 years or more of experience as a broadcast and multi-media journalist with a particular emphasis on television production.
  2. Ten years or more as a News Director.
  3. Teaching experience.
  4. A Master’s Degree.
