Job summary

CSL Behring seeks a Director of State Government Affairs for the Southeast US to serve as the primary liaison with state officials and stakeholders on policy matters affecting CSL Behring and its plasma operations.

You will lead strategy, develop champions in government and advocacy groups, and collaborate with market access, reimbursement, and communications teams to protect patient access and business operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required (advanced degree preferred) in public policy, government, political science, or related field.
• 7+ years’ experience preferred, with demonstrated knowledge of the legislative and regulatory process, particularly in the Southeast US region.
• Previous experience in government affairs or state government is necessary, with state legislative experience desirable.
• Previous advocacy experience with pharmaceutical/biotech, trade associations or patient advocacy organizations is also highly desirable.
• Business acumen: understands the life sciences industry and how current and potential policies, trends and practices could affect the industry.
• Customer focus: able to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers and gain their trust and respect.
• Timely decision‑making: can make decisions in a timely manner, sometimes with incomplete information and under tight deadlines and pressure.
• Negotiation skills: Can negotiate skillfully in tough situations with both internal and external groups.
• Political Savvy. Priority setting and strong time management.
• Able to be a self-starter. Strong written communication and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Represent CSL Behring before state legislatures, agencies and committees in the Southeast US to advance policy priorities.
• Draft legislation, provide technical corrections, and develop support for CSL Behring priorities.
• Lead cross‑functional discussions, action plans, and grassroots coalitions.
• Develop relationship strategies with allies, patient advocacy groups and trade associations.
• Coordinate with teams on policy positioning, advocacy strategies and stakeholder communications.
• Prepare written summaries and concise presentations for leadership and stakeholders.
