Job summary

Shinka is hiring a Sous Chef to join the back-of-house team as the restaurant opens this October in San Francisco. The ideal candidate is growth-oriented, takes pride in their work, and performs well under pressure.

This full-time, exempt role reports to the Executive Chef. You will oversee station prep, cooking, and presentation, coordinate with kitchen sections, manage mise en place, and help maintain high standards and guest satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a Sous Chef or similar culinary leadership role
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a fine dining establishment; experience with Japanese and/or French cuisine preferred but not required
  • Strong knowledge of culinary techniques, ingredients, and cooking processes
  • Excellent attention to detail and artistic skills for food presentation
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks and meeting tight deadlines
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Minimum of 50 hours expected to work per week. May be required to work after business hours, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Be able to stand, walk, and bend for long periods of time throughout the day
  • Be able to lift up to 50 lbs
