Job summary

Terrain Café in Westport, CT seeks a skilled Sous Chef to serve as second in command in a fast-paced scratch kitchen. You will follow the Executive Chef’s specifications, ensuring precision, speed, and superior plating across multiple stations in a high-performance setting.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of kitchen management experience in a high-volume, scratch-cooking environment.
• Expert proficiency with industrial kitchen technology and advanced culinary techniques.
• Ability to lead, mentor and delegate to a large culinary team.
• Strong sense of urgency, time management, and resilience under pressure.
• ServSafe Manager Certification or willingness to obtain certification.
• BS degree in Culinary Science or related certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage and mentor the BOH team, providing hands-on training for culinary consistency and career advancement.
• Direct high-volume service with speed while maintaining plating and taste excellence.
• Execute dishes across Sauté, Grill, and Oven stations.
• Ensure health department compliance, food safety protocols, and sanitation standards.
• Coordinate with Executive Chef on menu design, inventory, and labor scheduling.
• Solve operational issues professionally and maintain a positive team/customer approach.
