Public Job Source USA is seeking a dependable Part-Time Sous Chef/Kitchen Assistant to support kosher kitchens. This role assists the Chef with food preparation, kitchen cleaning, sanitation, meal service, and event setup and cleanup.

The position is temporary during the September and early October holiday schedule with a path to a longer-term role. Training is available for the right candidate, who is comfortable in a kitchen, follows instructions, and is eager to learn.

Qualifications

  • Basic kitchen or food preparation knowledge
  • Ability to understand and follow recipes and cooking instructions
  • Reliable and able to follow instructions
  • Comfortable working in a kosher kitchen environment
  • Basic knowledge of food holding and sanitation practices

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Chef with preparing kosher meals for breakfast, lunch, dinner, holidays, and special events
  • Slice and chop fruits, vegetables, and meats
  • Follow recipes and cooking instructions
  • Assist with food holding and serving at safe temperatures
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, work areas, and surfaces
  • Sweep and mop kitchen floors
  • Remove trash, waste, and garbage
  • Assist with food preparation for events
  • Set up tables and chairs for events
  • Assist with banquet-style table setup and meal service
  • Clear tables and assist with cleanup following meals and events
  • Complete additional kitchen duties as directed by the Chef

About This Opportunity

Seeking a dependable Part-Time Sous Chef/Kitchen Assistant to support its kosher kitchens. This position will assist the Chef with food preparation, kitchen cleaning and sanitation, meal service, and event setup and cleanup. The client is willing to train the right candidate who is comfortable working in a kitchen, follows instructions well, and is eager to learn.

The position will initially be temporary during the September and early October holiday schedule to ensure it is a good mutual fit, with the opportunity to transition to a long-term position.

Bonus Opportunity
  • $350 Attendance Bonus for perfect attendance during the first 30 days
Assignment Details

Pay: $17.00/hour

Schedule: Varied, based on events and kitchen needs

Initial Hours: Approximately 5-15 hours/week during the Jewish Fall High Holiday season
Ongoing Hours: Approximately 5-8 hours/week, with additional hours around holidays, programs, and special events

Dress Code
  • Business casual
  • Non-slip shoes or tennis shoes
  • Chef pants and a collared polo shirt are acceptable
Requirements
  • Basic kitchen or food preparation knowledge preferred
  • Comfortable slicing, chopping, and preparing food
  • Ability to understand and follow recipes and cooking instructions
  • Basic knowledge of kitchen cleaning and sanitation practices
  • Understanding of safe food holding and serving temperatures preferred
  • Must be reliable and able to follow instructions
  • Must be physically able to go up and down one or two flights of stairs
  • Culinary degree is not required
  • Client is willing to train the right candidate
  • Must be comfortable working in a kosher kitchen environment
