Job Summary

As a Sous Chef at Compass/Chartwells at George Mason University, you will oversee the Culinary Department's operations. Your responsibilities include supervising, preparing, and cooking various foods, developing daily menus, and garnishing dishes. You may supervise hourly staff and collaborate with the Executive Chef to develop new menus and manage orders. This role is ideal for an energetic, entrepreneurial culinary professional.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Assist the Executive Chef in managing costs and controlling expenditures.
2. Support menu planning and creation.
3. Produce and execute catering events.
4. Implement new culinary programs in coordination with the marketing and culinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate's degree or equivalent experience.
• Progressive culinary or kitchen management experience, depending on formal education or training.
• Catering experience is a plus.
• Experience in high-volume, complex foodservice operations is highly desirable.
• Experience with institutional and batch cooking is beneficial.
• Strong knowledge of food and catering trends, quality, sanitation, food cost control, and presentation.
• Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, email, and internet.
• Willingness to participate in client satisfaction programs.
• ServSafe certification is highly desirable.
