Location: Florida International University

We are hiring immediately for a full-time Sous Chef position.

Schedule: Full-time with open availability preferred. Hours and days may vary. More details provided during interview.

Requirements: Previous culinary experience and ServSafe certification are preferred.

Job Summary

The Sous Chef assists the Executive Chef in preparing and cooking food, coordinates activities of kitchen staff, and assumes leadership in the absence of the Executive Chef.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Cook and prepare food following approved recipes and standards, meeting all deadlines based on production orders.
  2. Supervise food service staff, including interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, counseling, reviews, and disciplinary actions as needed.
  3. Store food safely, adhering to all food safety and sanitation procedures.
  4. Ensure proper food handling, presentation, portion control, and serving temperatures.
  5. Maintain sanitation of equipment, supplies, and workstations; keep display areas clean during service.
  6. Interact with customers to resolve complaints courteously and relay relevant information to supervisors.
  7. Understand and explain daily menu items to staff and customers accurately.
  8. Manage peak production and service hours effectively.
  9. Monitor inventory, deliveries, and waste; inform supervisors when supplies are low.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.
