Job Description: Sous Chef at Encanto Mexican Restaurant

Join our team at Encanto, a Mexican restaurant located in Los Feliz, dedicated to authentic, seasonal, and ingredient-driven cuisine, complemented by a curated selection of tequilas and agave spirits.

Role Overview

The Sous Chef will assist the Executive Chef in managing kitchen operations, requiring 2-3 years of leadership experience in a restaurant setting, including experience with restaurant openings and banquet service. A culinary school diploma and multilingual abilities are encouraged. The position demands 55-60 hours weekly, including holidays, nights, weekends, and shift coverage. Candidates must be ServSafe certified.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee kitchen operations ensuring quality and consistency.
  • Maintain adherence to schedules, inventory, and safety standards.
  • Assist in staff development, evaluations, and sourcing.
  • Coordinate with vendors and manage multiple priorities.

Standards & Safety

  • Understand California labor laws and safety procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness, safety, and local sourcing standards.

Qualifications & Education

  • At least 2+ years of Sous Chef experience in fine dining.
  • Minimum 5+ years of cooking experience.
  • ServeSafe certification required.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work irregular hours.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
