Job summary

Grand Hyatt Washington is seeking a Sous Chef to lead and inspire our banquet kitchen team in a fast-paced, high-energy setting in downtown Washington, DC. You will ensure top-quality food production and assist in menu planning for events and daily service.

The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, culinary expertise, and a passion for hospitality, with the ability to train staff, manage scheduling, payroll, and development while upholding Hyatt safety standards.

We are looking for a Sous Chef to lead and inspire our kitchen staff in the creation of culinary masterpieces. While this person will work primarily in our Banquet kitchen, they must have the flexibility to help in other kitchen areas as needed. This role is crucial for maintaining the kitchen's efficiency and ensuring high-quality food production. To ensure success, this person must have excellent leadership skills with experience managing a team in a high-energy environment. Top candidates are creative individuals with a passion for great food and excellent service.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Menu planning and designing the plating presentation for each dish
  • Ensuring that all food meets the highest quality standards and is served on time
  • Hiring and training of kitchen staff to prepare and cook all menu items
  • Collaborating with event operations management
  • Optimizing staff productivity
  • Manage kitchen workflow during peak times or when a station needs additional support
  • Managing product inventory and placing orders as needed
  • Ensuring best practices are followed for safety and sanitation in the kitchen
  • Monitoring new industry trends
  • Incorporating feedback from staff and guests to make improvements
  • Manage scheduling, payroll, coaching, training, and development of team members
  • Ensure full compliance with Department of Health regulations and Hyatt standards

The salary range for this position is $67,200 to $75,600 commensurate with experience.
