Job summary

The Hartwood Restaurant is seeking a dedicated Chef de Cuisine to influence menu development and mentor our culinary team in a fast-paced, casual fine dining setting in the Pittsburgh area.

The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, a passion for seasonal and from-scratch cooking, and a commitment to high standards of food quality and presentation. Competitive compensation with performance bonuses will be offered commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in food service management or as a Sous Chef in a fine dining or high-volume establishment.
• Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, catering services, and banquet operations.
• Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team.
• Familiarity with menu planning, food safety practices, and sanitation standards.
• A passion for hospitality and delivering exceptional customer service.
• Culinary degree or relevant certification is preferred but not mandatory.
• Provide 3-5 industry references that candidate has worked directly under in last 5 years.

Responsibilities

• Supervise kitchen operations Tuesday through Saturday lunch and dinner services; available for holidays.
• Assist Executive Chef in managing kitchen operations and supervising staff.
• Take responsibility for complete kitchen operations in the absence of the Exec Chef.
• Lead and direct daily operation of the restaurant with hands-on presence in the kitchen.
• Ensure effective communication with FOH to deliver an exceptional guest experience.
• Oversee food preparation for consistency and quality; develop standardized recipes.
• Collaborate on menu planning, seasonal offerings, and catering/banquets.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Mentor junior kitchen staff and foster a positive work environment.
• Manage inventory, including ordering and reducing waste.
• Contribute to new recipes and culinary techniques.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen.

The Hartwood Restaurant & Whispers Pub is a well established, casual fine dining restaurant with a great reputation for amazing food, service and ambiance. Located in a scenic corner of Glenshaw, near Hartwood Acres, The Hartwood Restaurant is an approximately 175 seat casual fine dining restaurant combining indoor and outdoor seating options and an English style pub on premise. We excel at "from scratch and seasonal cooking with a variety of cultural influences represented in our daily menu's, features and special events.

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled working Chef de Cuisine to add their personal influences on the menu and to help grow our culinary team. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for food and hospitality, with the ability to lead and inspire others in a fast-paced kitchen environment. As Chef de Cuisine, you will play a crucial role in food preparation, menu planning, and ensuring that our guests receive an exceptional dining experience. This position requires strong leadership skills and a commitment to maintaining high standards of food quality and presentation.

• Manage inventory levels, including ordering supplies and minimizing waste.
• Contribute to the development of new recipes and culinary techniques.
