Location: University of Pittsburgh

We are hiring immediately for a SOUS CHEF position.

Address: 3990 Fifth Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15213. Note: online applications accepted only.

Schedule: Full-time: Monday - Friday, with some required weekends and nights. More details upon interview.

Requirement: Union experience preferred. Must have a strong background in scratch cooking and following recipes. Experience in large-scale operations with 3 meal periods is highly preferred. A cook test will be part of the hiring process.

Salary: $60,000.00

Job Summary

As a Sous Chef I, you are responsible for assisting with the overall success of the food program and overseeing culinary functions. This includes planning, ordering, inventory, and food preparation while adhering to the client’s culture, guidelines, health regulations, and company standards. The Sous Chef I also motivates, trains, develops, and directs back-of-house staff to ensure customer, client, and management satisfaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Assist in preparing and cooking various food items.
  2. Assist with menu planning and creation.
  3. Implement new culinary programs with marketing and culinary teams.
  4. Manage cost controls and expenditures.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  1. 5 years of related culinary experience, including 1 year in management.
  2. Experience in restaurants, hotels, corporate dining, education, military, healthcare, or related food service operations.
  3. Knowledge of food trends, quality, sanitation, safety, food costs, and presentation.
  4. Ability to set up and distribute production sheets.
  5. Supervisory, leadership, training, management, and coaching skills.
  6. ServSafe or Department of Health Certification preferred.
  7. Computer skills, including MS Office, especially Excel.
  8. Associate’s degree in Culinary Arts preferred.
