Summary

The Sourcing Specialist is responsible for supporting sourcing and supplier management activities across the organization while ensuring compliance with all import, export, and tariff-related requirements. This role partners closely with suppliers, internal stakeholders, customs brokers, freight providers, and government agencies to facilitate the efficient movement of goods, maintain regulatory compliance, minimize cost impacts, and support continuity of supply. This individual is accountable for coordinating sourcing initiatives, managing supplier-related documentation, monitoring tariff classifications and trade regulations, supporting import and export transactions, resolving shipping and customs issues, and identifying opportunities to improve sourcing and trade processes. Success in this role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, effective supplier communication, and a proactive approach to problem solving.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Sourcing & Supplier Support
  • Support sourcing initiatives for direct and indirect materials, components, and services.
  • Identify, evaluate, and onboard new suppliers in accordance with company requirements.
  • Solicit and analyze supplier quotations, lead times, capabilities, and commercial terms.
  • Maintain supplier records, contracts, certifications, and related sourcing documentation.
  • Partner with Purchasing and Operations teams to support supply continuity and supplier performance improvement efforts.
  • Assist in supplier negotiations related to pricing, lead times, freight terms, and commercial agreements.
  • Monitor supplier delivery performance and collaborate with suppliers to resolve service, quality, and delivery issues.
  • Support supplier risk assessments and mitigation activities.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Participate in cost reduction and supply chain optimization initiatives.
Tariff & Trade Compliance
  • Maintain compliance with applicable U.S. customs regulations, tariff requirements, and international trade laws.
  • Review and manage Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications for imported products.
  • Monitor tariff changes, trade regulations, special trade programs, and customs requirements that may impact the business.
  • Coordinate with customs brokers and third-party experts to ensure accurate classifications and duty assessments.
  • Maintain supporting documentation required for audits, customs reviews, and regulatory reporting.
  • Evaluate duty and tariff impacts and provide analysis to support sourcing and purchasing decisions.
  • Support initiatives to minimize tariff exposure while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Assist with supplier country-of-origin documentation and validation processes.
Import & Export Administration
  • Coordinate import and export activities to ensure timely movement of goods across international borders.
  • Prepare, review, and verify import/export documentation including commercial invoices, certificates of origin, shipping documents, and customs declarations.
  • Serve as a primary liaison with freight forwarders, customs brokers, carriers, suppliers, and government agencies.
  • Resolve shipment delays, customs holds, documentation discrepancies, and transportation issues.
  • Monitor import and export transactions for compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain records supporting import/export activities and document retention requirements.
  • Track key shipment metrics and provide updates on critical deliveries and exceptions.
  • Support audits and compliance reviews related to trade and customs activities.
Process Improvement & Reporting
  • Identify opportunities to improve sourcing, trade compliance, and logistics processes.
  • Develop reports and analyses related to tariffs, duties, supplier performance, trade activity, and sourcing initiatives.
  • Support implementation and maintenance of sourcing, procurement, and trade compliance systems.
  • Create and maintain standard operating procedures and work instructions for sourcing and trade-related processes.
  • Assist with special projects and continuous improvement initiatives as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, International Business, Logistics, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in sourcing, procurement, supply chain, logistics, import/export administration, or trade compliance.
  • Experience working with international suppliers and transportation providers preferred.
  • Experience with tariff classifications, customs documentation, and trade compliance regulations preferred.
  • Manufacturing industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of sourcing, procurement, supply chain, and supplier management practices.
  • Understanding of import/export processes, customs regulations, tariff classifications, and international trade requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with suppliers, customers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Experience utilizing ERP, purchasing, or supply chain management systems.
  • Ability to analyze data and develop actionable recommendations.
