Job description

The Sourcing Manager – Metals is responsible for the “Metals” spend category group. This involves management and execution of strategies for procurement of products from Metals and Machining direct spend suppliers. This may include raw materials, fabricated components, and mechanical assemblies. Directs the development and maintenance of a viable supplier base capable of supplying quality material on time and at competitive prices. Enforce corporate purchasing policies, and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and execute a Supplier Category Strategy aimed at ensuring continuity of supply and maximizing purchasing efficiency.

  • Work to evaluate, mitigate or retire Supply Chain risk as appropriate.

  • Research potential category vendors and compare their products, processes, prices, and services.

  • Negotiate relevant contracts with category vendors and set up terms for pricing and delivery.

  • Conduct market analysis, as appropriate, assessing how it impacts future supply needs.

  • Solve on-going supply constraints; seek out additional opportunities within existing products/services (self-directed).

  • Reporting of supply challenges as needed.

  • Manage and execute the Supplier Selection process, working in collaboration with key business partners, ensuring new business is awarded in accordance to an established Sourcing Strategy.

  • Consult with other department managers to coordinate programs and collaborate on projects of mutual concern. Serve, as required, on committees and execute assignments associated with the same.

  • Visit supplier facilities to observe operations and discuss business relationships. Analyze specifications and determine the best source for procurement of product.

  • Initiate cost reduction programs with suppliers. Develop strategies to leverage supplier relationships and their core competencies to find means for reducing manufacturing costs.

  • Consult with and advise company personnel, at all levels when appropriate, on matters pertaining to the planning for the purchase of items and services.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 5+ years of experience in strategic sourcing and/or materials management or related.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working within the metals and machining sourcing category group.

  • Previous experience in the medical device industry.

  • Experience managing contract manufacturer relationships.

  • Understanding of purchasing procedures, practices, and category management.

20-30% travel

This position is not open to employer based visa sponsorship.

Disclosure as required by applicable law, the annual salary range for this position is $97,446 to 148,763. The actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, education, and skill level. The salary range is CONMED’s good faith belief at the time of this posting.
