About This Role

Role: The Sourcing Manager for Direct Materials (Chemicals) will transform and innovate key categories impacting Biogen's operational footprint. This role leads category management, sourcing strategies, and sourcing processes from defining business needs to knowledge of the supply marketplace, executing RFx events, leading contract negotiations, managing supply risk, and supplier relationship management. The successful candidate will drive significant value to the business and will report to the Associate Director, Global Strategic Sourcing, Direct Materials.

What You'll Do
  • Execute and lead projects aligned with Category and Sourcing strategies, including negotiations and project/implementation plans. Support the creation of Sourcing and Category strategies by obtaining business requirements from stakeholders and conducting market assessments. Responsibilities include supplier relationship management, development and tracking of key performance indicators for the category, facilitating strategic supplier–company meetings, enforcing adherence to contractual agreements, driving continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Renew contracts, update pricing annually, refresh internal business requirements/metrics, maintain supplier capabilities database, monitor the marketplace for changes, manage known or potential business impacts, and develop risk mitigation plans. This includes contract lifecycle management (e.g., renewing expiring contracts, updating pricing annually) and category databases (e.g., internal requirements/impact metrics, supplier capabilities database).
  • Supplier relationship management, including development of KPIs for the category and supporting key operational due diligence (e.g., acting as a SME during quality audits and interpreting contract obligations).
  • Continuous Improvement of department/category processes, including enhancements to the sourcing process, development or revision of key sourcing procedures, documenting processes, and personal development.
Who You Are

You are an experienced procurement professional with expertise in GMP materials sourcing, contracts and negotiations. You enjoy collaborating with diverse subject-matter experts to develop process improvements and evolve category strategies. You excel in presenting and interacting with internal senior-level management and suppliers.

  • Minimum of 5 years of procurement experience in the following topics:
    • Experience negotiating supplier agreements
    • Track record of building comprehensive category and sourcing strategies that address stakeholder needs and market offerings
    • Demonstrated ability to support multiple sourcing categories in the Biotech/Pharmaceutical industry; knowledge of technical business functions and GxPs is preferred
  • Excellent written, oral communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to influence project stakeholders
  • Experience with project management involving multidisciplinary stakeholders
  • Strong experience working in a matrix environment with indirect reporting structures
  • Ability to develop, enhance and execute on processes and procedures
  • Supplier relationship management and business reviews experience
Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Life Sciences or a related field.

Additional Information

Base compensation range for this role is: $101,000.00 - $135,000.00. Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach considering factors including relevant skills and experience, job location, and internal equity.

Regular employees are eligible for short-term and long-term incentives, including cash bonuses and equity incentive opportunities, based on individual, business unit, and company performance.
