Soup Kitchen Worker/Cook (Peekskill Corps)

We are seeking a dedicated Soup Kitchen Worker to assist with the daily operations of The Salvation Army Soup Kitchen.

Responsibilities:

  • Follow proper hand washing, PPE, and food handling policies at all times.
  • Assist with orientation, supervision, training, scheduling, and delegation of tasks to volunteers.
  • Maintain sanitary conditions in accordance with New York State Public Health regulations.
  • Manage kitchen staff and coordinate food orders.
  • Supervise food preparation and cooking processes.
  • Ensure food plating and temperature standards are met.
  • Establish appropriate portion sizes.
  • Adhere to guidelines for maintaining city and state food licenses.
  • Maintain and operate kitchen appliances safely.
  • Order food supplies and kitchen equipment as needed.
  • Store food in compliance with safety practices.
  • Ensure sanitation and safety standards are upheld in the kitchen area.
  • Sort donated food, discarding outdated or damaged items.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work effectively in a kitchen environment.
  • Experience with menu planning and ingredient ordering.
  • Knowledge of various recipes.
  • Comfortable working with clients and large groups.
