About this Position:

Seattle Center, is seeking professional Intermittent Sound and Video Operators who are available days, evenings, holidays and/or weekends. Work opportunities are directly related to Seattle Center event schedules; hours of work will vary. This is on-call work with no guaranteed minimum number of hours.


  • Set up and operate both permanently installed and portable sound reinforcement and recording systems; video, broadcast and recording camera operation, video projection, communication and ancillary electronic systems for a variety of events and performances including performing arts, concerts, corporate, and community events.
  • Set up and operate presentation software such as PowerPoint and KeyNote.
  • Design, fabricate, and install new systems and equipment.
  • Consult with clients, performers, musicians, and stage managers regarding sound and video requirements. Communicate directly with performers, clients, and Seattle Center staff.
  • Select proper microphones, speakers, mixing and amplifying equipment; mix and adjust sound reinforcement equipment during events.
  • Work collaboratively with members of the production team, event personnel, artists, and presenters.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four years progressively responsible experience in professional audiovisual and/or sound reinforcement with AV and/or video productions or a service provider and two years in the repair and maintenance of electronic sound equipment (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).

You will be successful in this role if you have:

  • Proficiency in operation of digital audio mixing systems, system control via Ethernet and proprietary networks, computer software (Mac and PC), wireless frequency coordination, video distribution, projection systems, production intercom, wireless microphones, and assistive listening systems.
  • Certification in Dante Level 1, 2, and 3, Adamson Blueprint AV. Yamaha Digital Sound Reinforcement - Dante training course, Yamaha Digital PM10, and CL/QL training
  • Experience mixing sound in a large venue for performing arts, concerts, lectures, or corporate events.
  • Proficiency with acoustic prediction software.
  • Wireless microphone dressing and maintenance experience.
  • Experience with maintenance and operation of AV equipment used in live events and occasional broadcast of live events, including recording, streaming, and video feed set ups.
  • Experience installing, and operating fiber optic infrastructure.
  • Experience with digital video recording and editing systems, experience with digital audio recording and editing systems.
  • Experience in professional theatre companies with increasing duties and responsibilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent teamwork, customer service and communication skills.

License, Certification, and other Requirements:

  • Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Must have normal hearing acuity.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to maneuver safely and work on ladders and catwalks.
  • Accept exposure to high sound levels, take safety precautions and follow procedures.
  • Must be able to work nights, evenings, weekends and/or holidays and extended hours.

The full salary range for this position is $50.03-$51.89 per hour. Temporary employees begin at step 1, which is $50.03 hourly. Intermittent employees do not get salary step increases. You'll also get premium pay that increases the more hours you work. (Starts at an additional 5% on top of your base rate, up to 25%!)

This work is on-call work with no guaranteed minimum hours. Because Seattle Center is a 24/7-hour operation, 363 days/year - work hours will require: days, evening, weekend and holidays.
