Job description

PRN (As Needed)

General Summary

Performs routine and advanced diagnostic ultrasound procedures at an intermediate to beginning specialist skill level.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs all ultrasound techniques and examinations such as abdominal scans, retroperitoneal scans, obstetric and gynecology scans, small parts and neonatal head scans, vascular exams, and assists with interventional procedures.
  • Schedules cases to coordinate with other patient examinations.
  • Positions and transfers patients safely and comfortably and explains basic procedure.
  • Selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis.
  • Selects and operates equipment as needed to perform required exams.
  • Maintains equipment in efficient operating order; performs preventative maintenance on a regularly scheduled basis; contacts outside service for major malfunctions.
  • Prepares and maintains written documentation as required by the profession and the department.
  • Knowledge and use of digital image storage system PACS.
  • Job accountabilities specific to the WellSpan Medical Group/Maternal Fetal Medicine: directs patients to rooms and obtains vitals of patients.

Common Expectations:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age-specific data and provides appropriate, age-specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and 'error proof' systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, and workshops.
  • Maintains records of examination data and other pertinent information on patients.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
  • Supervises, assists and evaluates students in the clinical education setting.
  • Secures and returns supplies such as film, linens, medicine, patient folders.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED Required

Work Experience:

  • 2 years Relevant experience. Required

Licenses:

  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer-Abdomen Upon Hire Required or
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer-Breast Upon Hire Required or
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer-Fetal Echocardiography Upon Hire Required or
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer-Neurology Upon Hire Required or
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer-OBGYN Upon Hire Required or
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer-Pediatric Upon Hire Required or
  • Registered Vascular Technologist Upon Hire Required and
  • Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required

Driver's License Statement:

Must possess a valid driver's license in the current state of residence. Driving record must meet requirements established by WellSpan Risk Management.
